Carpets & Dhurries

The origins of dhurrie can be traced far back to the ritualistic floor paintings in India. In the Hindu and tribal communities, drawing patterns on walls and home floors was believed to be a powerful religious charm that would ward off evil spirits and energies form their houses. And carpets were introduced through Persian influence in the 16th century.

While dhurries are handwoven on a pit loom and are made of cotton and combination of other fabrics, carpets are hand knotted and mostly made of wool.

India's heritage of handmade carpets has been recognized worldwide with a significant share in global exports for it's eco friendliness, excellent designs, superior quality and the bright colours and patterns.
